Give Me a Rose

Helen Trevillion

Compositor: Helen E. Trevillion

O give me a rose to bloom in the snow,
As pale as the moon's ethereal glow.
Soothing the touch and silver the gleam,
Thornless the stem entwining my dream.

O give me a rose to shine in the night,
When souls of stars weaken, robbed of their light,
And dance in my eyes like the spirit of dawn;
Dance through the shadow and into the morn.

O give me a rose as pure as the rain
That runs down my face and releases my pain,
With beauty unfading, pure gold to the eye,
Lulling my world in one trembling sigh.

O give me a rose to bloom in my heart,
For my garden is bare and my soil is stark.
My flowers have wilted, blacker than death
And Winter has stolen the warmth from my breath.

O give me a rose alive with your love
And teach me to smile while the snow falls above
